“WALK WITH THE WISE AND BECOME WISE”
I’m blown away by God’s intimate involvement in my life! Like on Sunday, I sent my daughter, Ember, this text message after asking her to hook me up with exercise clothes from Nike:
“So I can think of you every morning. TO BE A MOM YOU CAN ADMIRE.”
I sent her that message because the words of my brother, Kevin, from over four years ago are stuck in my head! Fast forward to Wednesday morning, running to my God tree in search of some glimmer of His Presence with me, this incredibly showed up, that very voice note from Kevin with God lovingly saying, ‘Nik, I’m right here with you!:
“I’M ON STRIKE!!!” (REPOST)
I decided not to take that sucker punch so easily after all. With God’s guidance, I’ve decided to fight this battle peacefully. After my husband called my brother, Kevin, to complain about me, I called him back to give my side of the story and to ask for him to give my husband our family’s response to the matter (having some fun with this African culture thing!). However, I wasn’t expecting this from my brother in a WhatsApp voice message:
“You helped me when I was in that predicament. You calmed my wife down. You helped to sort things out for me. I don’t see why I can’t help sort out things for you. Life is a two-way street. A lot of people only see from their perspective. They don’t even see the streets. Some of them have tunnel vision. Those who see it from two ways are the ones who are going to make it. And honestly, Nikki, I hate to be the one to say this to you, you in this thing; you are the one who taught me about believing in God and everything else. And you have to trust that He (God) will level this thing out. No matter how He does it. You have to let God level this out. You can’t level it out.
Only thing you can do now to help, especially those beautiful children you have, you have to show them how to keep a solid head. YOU HAVE TO LET THEM ADMIRE YOU FOR BEING A STRONG WOMAN (WINK! WINK!). And more than anything else, the people on the other side that are causing all this ruckus, you have to let them see you like an individual they’ve never seen before. How this woman get so strong? Living her life and not even checking. You don’t have to check for nobody. You are well taken care of. And more so than anything else, I have to put in a word for Manny (my husband). Nikki, you could have run into somebody who could have left you with all those children, and you don’t know your head from your elbow. Don’t say it can’t happen. It can happen. You have to understand that he is a stand-up guy. Oh, he has his ways; we know that. But he’s there with his family.”
Wow! So true! I know I have the best husband in the world, and honestly, in thinking about it, I’m going with my brother’s advice, and I will let God level this situation out. God, I trust You. Amen. The strike is officially called off. Back to being the best wife in the world!”
That began our wisdom chats with God speaking to me through Kevin. No doubt whatsoever. Even if you take this one voice note, it is filled with such profound wisdom. I promised Kevin I would share him with the world, so I gotta work on my next book! THANK YOU, KEVIN, FOR BEING MY PERSONAL GUARD RAILS FROM GOD HIMSELF! I am Nikki So Blessed to have you!!! Off to be that strong woman my kids can admire! So help me, God!
