My daughter, Ember, from her first semester at university, and God showed up at the airport to meet her. I assured her that I would be there to pick her up, and God figured out a sweet way to let us know that His Presence was also there to welcome her back home for the summer.
This God wink started with a friend calling me a few hours before I was to pick up Ember. Right after the call, I felt God take my eyes to her telephone number, telling me to specifically pay attention to the “81111.” Guys, I got to the airport, and it was filled with yellow taxis with the telephone numbers unbelievably ending in “81111.” Wow! I was blown away by God, knowing that this was no coincidence that He had me staring at my friend’s number as if saying, ‘Nik, notice the 81111.’ That again lined up too perfectly to be some ordinary coincidence; it was God’s loving way of revealing His invisible Presence with us. (HUGE SMILE)
I got inside and immediately started questioning Ember about her appointments with God. She showed me what she had read in her last alone time with Him:
“I WANT YOU TO KNOW how safe and secure you are in My Presence…I will walk with you till the end of time and onward into eternity…When you forget I am with you, you may experience loneliness or fear. It is through awareness of My Presence that peace displaces negative feelings. Practice the discipline of walking consciously with Me through each day.” – Jesus Calling by Sarah Young
This was the exact message I felt Him saying to me under our tree recently that He wants me to practice this discipline of always walking with Him, and where I want us all, knowing that there is never a moment that He is not with us. God showing up at the airport to welcome Ember was the love He shows me and my family that I want you guys to feel for yourselves. I’m only the God nerd who pays serious attention to these glimpses of Hs invisible Presence to report back to you guys.
Both Ember and I cried seeing each other. Absence does indeed makes the heart grow fonder! The mom who was happy to say, ‘Here university, you take over raising her,’ was there eager to pick her up as we both held on to each other for the longest crying happy tears. Thank You, God, for this fierce, wonderful, and wise daughter who, along with my other kids, are pushing me out of my comfort zone to step up my game in every aspect of my life. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’ve even made this the summer of their dad, where I will do my best to teach them the values I’m learning from my hubby. I cried today when he surprisingly called me when I was having an appointment with God reading about faithfulness and immediately thought of hubs. I got all emotional reading it to him:
“The faithful person is dependable in all kinds of circumstances. This is a much-desired characteristic in others with whom we have any kind of relationship. We all need to be people of faithfulness!”
Hubs goes overboard in his responsibilities to us! We may go through our ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I know I have a ride or die hubby, and he knows that He has a ride or die wife. No breaking up here! God has become the crucial center of our lives where we try to honor him in our decisions. We may get it wrong lots, but we keep striving to be the people God would have us to be. I’m following the advice of Dr. Charles Stanley, who said to obey God and leave the consequences to Him. Right now, I’m on chill (silent) mode where God says to stay on the high road with Him going overboard in love and support. For this God who is taking such great care of us, I say, ‘Anything to please You, let me learn.’
